Lovage root (Levisticum officinale)
Lovage root (Levisticum officinale) is a plant native to Central and Southern Europe as well as Western Asia. It grows wild along roadsides, in forests and meadows. The root is long, thick and fleshy with a brown, furrowed outer skin. Inside, it is white and has a strong, aromatic flavor reminiscent of celery. The leaves are dark green, pinnate and also have an intense aroma. The yellow flowers form characteristic umbels.
